Kovalam to Kumarakom Houseboat

Day 2

Kumarakom Sightseeing

Kumarakom is an enchanting backwater tourist destination in Kerala, India. Located 85 Km from Cochin International Airport and 12 Km from Kottayam, it is one of the most exhilarating tourist place located on the Vembanad Lake. Day 3

Allepey to Varkala

While in Alleppey, you can visit the Revi Karuna Karan Museum which contains a wide collection of crystal, porcelain and ivory antiques. You will also find the personal collection of furniture and paintings of wealthy businessman Revi Karuna Karan. The museum was built in 2003 after he passed away in the same year.  As one of Kerala’s most popular beaches, Alleppey Beach is about 2 km away from the city centre. Due to strong currents it is most not advisable to go for a swim in the ocean, however, the sunset from the Alleppey beach is spectacular. Perhaps Alleppey’s most popular experience is the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. Thousands of contestants participate in the race to win this coveted trophy. The race takes place on Punnamada Lake between various houseboats with upto 100 rowers.  For a unique dining experience, be sure to visit Kream Korner Art Cafe. With an enticing blend of food and art, Kream Korner Art café serves a variety of Indian and Chinese dishes. The atmosphere is inviting with brightly coloured tables and interesting pieces of art.

Day 4

Varkala Sightseeing

Start your day by visiting the holy shrine of Hindus, Janardhanswamy Temple. This temple was built during the 12^th century and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Since the past 2000 years, devout Hindus have flocked to the Janardhanswamy Temple for pilgrimages. Make your way towards the Varkala Beach also known as Papanasam Beach which is Varkala’s main attraction. It is believed that the waters here have curative or medicinal properties, thus cleansing the body of impurities and sins. It is this property that gives Varkalas beach its name Papamasam meaning ‘Destroyer of Sins’. Be sure to enjoy the cooling waters while you are on the beach as the best time to visit Varkala is between the months of December and March. Don’t forget to take a boat ride into the deep waters of the beach and you will spot dozens of friendly dolphins at ease in their natural habitat. It’s truly a sight to behold.  End your day by visiting the Sivagiri Mutt, ashram of Shri Narayana Guru. Shri Naryana Guru was a saint, social reformer, philosopher and leader of Ezhava community. Varkala serves as the headquarters of the community.    During the month of August, the ashram celebrates Guru Deva Jayanti  and Guru Deva Samadhi during the month of September.  Visitors can visit the ashram for a glimpse into the life of Shri Narayana Guru.

Varkala to Kovalam
